This is it!

The biggest decision I’ve made so far – to leave the life I know. To go on an adventure of a lifetime.

Back to the beginning: After leaving cycling behind in my teens, I was reintroduced to leisure cycling by Sam. Over time, cycling became something that wasn’t just for fun, but an integrated part of our lives as we decided to become a car-free household around 2.5 years ago. Now, almost every single journey involves a bike ride whether that’s the commute, a visit to family and friends, a trip to the dentist or for a holiday.

Bike touring was not something I had done before but following a few short trips in the UK, we decided to make a two week journey from the UK to southern France in 2019. With our gear and tent in a couple of tiny panniers, we successfully navigated the Eurovelo 1 and loved it.

On the journey, we met so many wonderful people also touring at different stages of their lives, on all types of bikes and doing various daily mileages. Sam will tell you more about this trip and how the people we met shaped what would happen next and lead to this life-changing decision.

The simple reason for doing this is that we just love cycling. My “happy place” is on a bike. I love the freedom, amazed at what my body can do, how it keeps me healthy, the speed of travel, the connection with what’s around me, and the things I see and come across. I love that I can just stop whenever I feel like it, to admire the view or take a closer look at that pretty flower in the verge.

I just want to keep riding and so that’s what we’re going to do! I hope to experience freedom of travelling to wherever we choose, the freedom to stop whenever we want, to be amazed at the things we see, to explore different landscapes and experience different communities and meet more amazing people along the way.

Now on to the planning and preparation…
