Saint-Louis is a treat

April 25, 2026

Very much enjoying the sights, sounds and people of Saint-Louis. We are now considering the merits of heading back here for the jazz festival in a couple of weeks’ time. A few pictures from this morning’s stroll out. Oh, and, we heard a Fula flute being played in a school, which is a favourite of mine, with it’s breathy overtones.

Shop door with mural either side. Man on left. Woman on right. Muted colours due to sun.
So many gorgeous hand-painted signs
Text in tiles on doorstep reading: IDEN DE St Louis
Many lovely tiled signs and areas too
A tall man stands to the right of picture over Beck to the left. Street scene.
Lots of people to chat with. This guy (we didn’t note his name, duh!) is a local art teacher who we hope to meet later
Horse in foreground, river, boats and blocks of flats to rear

Cows next to beautifully hand-painted boats on shoreline of river with more boats and flats to rear

Hand-painted boats. One in foreground and many on other side of river.
So many lovely hand-painted boats
More hand-painted boats next to river
More hand-painted goodness
Man casts fishing net out of yellow boat on river. Shoreline in shot and bridge to right. Houses over river.
Quick snap of this Decisive Moment. Eat your heart out Bresson :)
