You may have noticed a glut of blogposts lately. This is terrible form from a ‘media strategy’ point of view, but would it surprise you to learn that we don’t actually have a media strategy? 😊
What’s driving this is the fact that we’ve had multiple half-written posts bubbling under for a while and scant opportunity to get online, let alone finish them while getting battered by high velocity sand.
In the meantime, we’ve been staying in a hotel in Nouakchott working out what our next moves might be, and finishing some blogposts as we do so. The debate of what to do next is broadly centred around three options:
1. Just ride south a bit, explore Senegal for a while and then head north again. As mentioned before we’ll be looking for transport back across the Sahara but we’ve met someone in Nouakchott who wants to be a guide for us when we return, so we’ll probably get to see some of what we missed by transiting this time (yay!)
2. Ride south sharpish, take a ferry to shortcut a section, head into Guinea-Conakry with a view to getting some hill riding in and some deeper exploration before gradually exiting north again
3. Work out a version of 1 & 2 that results in us staying down this way through the rainy season in order to explore further in time. This would really unlock things from the point of view of a deeper exploration
As ever, we are playing various things by ear and there are pros and cons to any of these decisions. Certainly, trying to explore dirt roads when monthly rainfall totals can exceed 1000mm seems hard, if not downright impossible…
Any thoughts / experiences welcome.
