And we’re off! It’s back to bimbling for us. Following an amazing road trip around Mauritania and then a test of endurance in a lorry through the Sahara we’re finally back on the road.

This riding can’t come soon enough for me (or Sam). One of the reasons I ride my bike is that it keeps me on an even keel and my mental health in good order. Over the last few days I’ve been pretty down in the dumps and not been very good at coping with the day-to-day decisions and challenges that come with being on the road. This wasn’t helped by not getting enough sleep (whilst trucking), not eating too well (Mauritania’s fresh fruit and vegetable offering is ‘limited’) and quite a lot of socialising (which can really set off my Long Covid). As well as feeling rotten, I’ve also been really bad company too. However, even after getting some good rest and topping up on fresh fruit and vegetables, I’ve not been able to shake it.
Until today.
We set out from Anza and went straight into the mountains surrounding Agadir. We puffed and panted our way up our first proper climb in months and were definitely feeling the lack of fitness. Then there was a sigh of relief as we hit the trails through the mountains and enjoyed an amazing on-road descent.

Almost as soon as we were back in nature and both enjoying the stunning landscape around us my mood lifted and this evening I’m feeling ready to go and looking forward to the next few days of riding. Turns out that all I needed was another dose of the ‘Wonder Drug’.
Oh, and here’s another game of ‘Spot Sam’. Previous edition here if you missed it!
